Batman Exhibit

The Volo Auto Museum has one of the largest collections of Batmobiles in the world, along with other Batman memorabilia. There's so much to explore in our Batman exhibit, so here's a taste of what you'll find.

Replica Batmobiles

The Batmobile — it's perhaps the most iconic vehicle in all of television and cinema. Every generation has the one they consider theirs. For late baby boomers and Gen Xers, it's the campy 1966 Batmobile that Adam West's Batman drove alongside Burt Ward as Robin. For millennials, it's the militaristic Tumbler that Christian Bale used to plow through Gotham in Christopher Nolan's “Dark Knight” trilogy. Volo Auto Museum has replicas of some of the most iconic Batmobiles:
1966 TV Series Batmobile

1966 TV Series Batmobile

The Batmobile from the 1960s live-action TV show comes from Hollywood automobile specialist George Barris, who used Ford's 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car as a base for the caped crusader's first custom-made vehicle. Barris gave the Futura's manta-ray body a glossy black finish with red accents on the trim and the Batman logos dawning the doors and rims. Its rounded windshield and the angular tail fins contrast each other, but they pull the ensemble's distinct look together and lay the groundwork for designs to come.
1989 Batmobile

1989 Batmobile

Bruce Wayne drove the Batmobile on the big screen for the first time in 1989 for Tim Burton's “Batman.” Burton, alongside conceptual illustrator Julian Caldow and built by John Evans' special effects team at Pinewood Studios, brought his dark and quirky style to the Batmobile design. The designers covered a Chevrolet Impala chassis with a long, low body featuring spherical elements that harken back to the 1966 model. Its tail fins are scalloped to resemble Batman's cape.
Batmobile Tumbler

Tumbler

Christopher Nolan went with a gritty, realistic take on Batman and Gotham City in his Dark Knight trilogy. There had to be a grounded explanation for every tool Batman used. Rather than a comic-book-accurate depiction, Nolan went with a militaristic version of the Batmobile. The Tumbler is a cross between a Lamborghini and a tank. It sits low to the ground and features heavy armor, serious artillery and wheels positioned like pincers.

Other Batman Replicas at the Volo Auto Museum

Here are some of the other fun features on display in our Batman exhibit:
Batmobile kiddie rides

Jr. Batmobiles

We felt the Batman exhibit needed something for the kids. Our Jr. Batmobiles are coin-operated rides that look just like some of the full-sized Batmobiles in our exhibit. Check out the rocking ride inspired by the 1966 Batmobile — it has the same Lincoln Futura body, black finish, red accents and split-dome windshield like George Barris's design.
batcycle

TV Series Batcycle

Batman is famous for his endless arsenal of gadgets and vehicles. When he isn't driving the Batmobile, you can find him zipping through Gotham on the Batcycle. We have a replica of the George Barris Batcycle from the 1960s TV series. This bike — and its side carriage for Robin — features a torpedo shape and a similar color scheme to the Batmobile. But here, the dark Knight gets a hint of white. The design screams the 1960s and was a perfect fit for the Adam West show.

Christian Bale Batman

Criminals beware — the Volo Auto Museum is in good hands. Our Batman exhibit has a life-sized replica of the caped crusader himself. This rendition of Christian Bale's Batman features a detailed recreation of the Batsuit from the Dark Knight trilogy. He looks so life-like that you'll wait for him to spring into action.
joker

Heath Ledger Joker

In a world with a Batman, there will always be a Joker. Their dichotomy stands true at the Volo Auto Museum. We have a life-sized replica of Heath Ledger Joker, complete with a purple trench coat lined with grenades like what he wears in his first confrontation with Gotham's mob bosses in The Dark Knight. Let's not blow this out of proportion — the grenades are fakes, but that stare sure does feel real.
