Attention, thrill-seekers!
Adrenaline-pumping rentals coming to Volo

VOLO Yearning to experience the power of iconic muscle, but not quite accelerating toward ownership?

Classic car aficionados will have the chance to do more than drool over the vehicular jewels at the Volo Auto Museum Oct. 4-5 and Oct. 10-12, when the official GEM Tour roars into town. GEM, or Golden Era Motors, offers enthusiasts the opportunity to buckle up and throttle up in one of five of the most iconic muscle cars ever built.

Theres the hugger orange 69 Camaro SS, the candy apple red 66 Ford Mustang Fastback, a meridian turquoise 68 Pontiac GTO, and a tuxedo black 72 Corvette Stingray with removable T-tops. Or how about the 1971 plum crazy Dodge Challenger R/T?

Founded in 2013, Golden Era Motors is in the midst of a six-city tour, including stops in Atlanta; Charlotte, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Birmingham, Alabama; New Orleans; and Volo.

They contacted us, and we thought this would be kind of a fun opportunity for some of our customers, because thats not something we do, said Brian Grams, director of the museum at 27582 Volo Village Road.

In existence since 1960, the Volo Auto Museum buys, sells and displays hundreds of vintage, classic, muscle and Hollywood cars, as well as rare military vehicles and memorabilia. The museum also hosts myriad car shows and car club events. But the upcoming rental opportunity is a first, Grams said.

We like to host cool events here, he said, noting that museum admission will be available, but not required for rental participants. This is a chance for people to try something a little different.

Those interested can book a rental at goldeneramotors.com. Packages start at $199.

The Volo Auto Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Regular admission is $13.95 for adults, $8.95 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and younger. For other information about the museum, visit volocars.com, call 815-385-3644 or find Volo Auto Museum on Facebook.
