Svengoolie to greet Volo Auto Museum visitors

VOLO — With exhibits like the ’58 Plymouth Fury known as “Christine,” a rover from the movie “Alien,” “Ghostbusters” Ecto-1 and more, the Volo Auto Museum is a spooktacular place for some ghoulish fun.

Throw in a little Svengoolie, some candy-wielding costumed characters, train tours and more, and you’ve got an especially sweet Halloween in store.

Emmy award-winning Rich Koz, aka Svengoolie, will meet and greet visitors from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Volo Auto Museum, 27582 Volo Village Road. Celebrating his 36th year in the role, Koz has been so popular during past appearances that museum officials implemented a new protocol last year to avoid long waits.

Those interested in meeting Svengoolie will be assigned a group as they arrive. That way they will be free to enjoy the museum until their group is called, said Brian Grams, museum director.

Children are invited to trick-or-treat among the many costumed characters who will be on hand. And trains will provide museum tours throughout the day.

“Svengoolie’s visits are always fantastic,” Grams said. “We are especially excited to have him here on Halloween day this year. What could be better?”

The museum will have a professional photographer snapping photos of each visitor with Svengoolie. Pictures will be posted to the museum’s Facebook page, where visitors can download them for free, Grams said.

Regular admission rates of $14.95 for adults and $8.95 for children ages 5 to 12 apply. Children ages 4 and younger are admitted free.

The Volo Auto Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and features roughly 400 classic, antique, muscle and Hollywood cars, as well as recent additions of nautical and agricultural antiques. For other information, visit volocars.com, call 815-385-3644 or find Volo Auto Museum on Facebook.
