THIS IS THE ACTUAL TRUCK THAT HAULED BOTH CAPTIN KIRK AND SPOK IN STAR TREK IV. To the average onlooker, the weathered '76 pickup truck might appear out of place among Volo Auto Museum's impressive array of meticulously maintained muscle, vintage and Hollywood cars.
But not to a Trekkie, because any Trekkie worth his Starfleet insignia will know that this powder blue Chevrolet pickup has a very special place in Star Trek history. It was driven by no less than Capt. Kirk himself in the 1986 film "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home."
"It is just an old '76 Chevy pickup," said Brian Grams, one of the museum owners and the one who procures most of the Hollywood cars for the museum. "What I feel makes it neat is that there was only one Star Trek that ever had cars in it, including both the movies and the TV series, according to the International Movie Database.
"It was the only one ever driven by Capt. Kirk," Grams continued. "Spock also rode in it."
The truck recently arrived at Volo Auto Museum. Grams said he bought the truck directly from the special effects man who worked on the "Star Trek IV" set. That man, Bob Barrett, acquired the truck from Paramount after the movie was filmed.
