Cars in Wonderland grand opening set July 13-14

VOLO — The weekend of July 13-14 is shaping up to be a dazzling display at the Volo Auto Museum. Not only is it the spectacular Cars in Wonderland grand opening, but also featured will be the Hot Rods for Huntington’s Disease Car Show.

Radio Disney will perform at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13. And on Sunday, July 14, it’s the Princess Cabaret, with performances at noon and 2 p.m.

Additionally, on July 13, the hot rods show to benefit the Huntington’s Disease Society of America will grace the grounds. Due to a weather delay, this show was rescheduled from June 22, said Brian Grams, Volo Auto Museum director.

“On July 13, we’ll have a lot going on,” Grams said. “Visitors will be getting two events for the price of one.”

On both days, a bounce house will be set up indoors. A face painter will delight the kids, and a professional photographer will take souvenir photos of people inside “the funniest tow truck on earth, Tow Mater from Disney’s ‘Cars’,” Grams said.

“These will be the only days we will ever allow people inside Tow Mater,” he said. A $10 photo fee will apply.

The Hot Rods for Huntington’s Disease benefit show will feature Baggo tournaments, two live bands, a silent auction and raffle. More than $7,000 in auction and raffle prizes will be distributed, including a Coach purse and a $2,600 Snap-on toolbox, Grams said. Grilled fare will be available for purchase.

Grams, who has worked on the Cars in Wonderland exhibit for about a year, said he is excited to see visitors’ reactions. “There are still more changes and finishing touches that are to be completed before this event, including a Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo display,” he said, adding that now more than ever, Volo offers something for everyone.

“You don’t have to be a car lover to love the Volo Auto Museum,” he said.

Volo Auto Museum is located at 27582 Volo Village Road, Volo. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Regular admission rates will apply July 13-14. Admission is free for members, $13.95 for adults; $8.95 for children 5 to 12; $11.95 for seniors 65 and older and for veterans and military personnel with ID; and free for children younger than 5 as well as military personnel in uniform.
