to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

VOLO — Evildoers beware: Saturday, July 15, will be all about the Caped Crusader at the Volo Auto Museum.

Those visiting the museum at 27582 Volo Village Road on Saturday, July 15, will enjoy a “Celebration of Adam West,” with 20 percent of the day’s admission receipts going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Tennessee, said Brian Grams, museum director. West, who portrayed the Caped Crusader in the classic 1960s “Batman” TV series, died June 9 at the age of 88.

The West family established a gift fund in Adam West’s name at St. Jude, and it is this fund — http://tinyurl.com/ycazsklz — that will benefit.

“I have a picture of Adam West posed with our Batmobile, and I am going to turn that into a souvenir memorial photo that will be free to guests that day,” Grams said. “I’ll also invite visitors to sit in that very same Batmobile for professionally shot photos, also provided for free.

“Almost all of our cars — and certainly this iconic piece of 1960s history — are off limits for the general public to climb behind the wheel,” he continued. “This is a rare opportunity, and one Adam West fans should not miss.”

Grams said he is among fans who mourn the recent passing of West, who, Grams added, likely would be very pleased to know his memory is benefiting St. Jude. The famous Memphis-based research hospital provides medical treatment at no cost for children suffering from a number of catastrophic illnesses.

“Adam West was a class act,” Grams said. “We were really fortunate to mingle with him at events we collaborated on across the country, and to enjoy his friendly, funny personality first-hand.

“We think that he’d think our July 15 event was really cool.”

Along with the Batmobile, the Volo Auto Museum features roughly 400 classic, muscle, Hollywood cars and more. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is $15 for adults, $9 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and younger. For other information, call 815-385-3644, visit volocars.com or find Volo Auto Museum on Facebook.
